Iceland is becoming a popular tourist destination and I have many friends traveling to Iceland in the coming months. Most of them are going for a few days and always ask advice on the best places to visit while they are there for 2-3 days. Since I have been to Iceland twice, once for a few days and once for 7 days, I have a pretty good idea on what they should check out. Here is what I suggest for a 3-day itinerary in Iceland.

We heard from a lot of people that eating in Iceland could be a problem, especially in the remote areas, but for the most part, we were able to find good food. Lots of hot dogs, but we intentionally chose to get hot dogs because they were cheap, different and so good.

There were 3 things I wanted to do on this trip to Iceland: Visit the Solheimasandur plane crash, pet some Icelandic horses and see the Northern Lights. I'm happy to say that I was able to accomplish all three of these things and the Northern Lights was definitely high on my list!

The Sólheimasandur plane wreckage is a famous site in Iceland where a plane crashed in November 1973. The US Navy airplane - a Douglas Super DC-3 - was forced to crash land on Sólheimasandur beach. The crew all survived the impact, but the plane was abandoned and still lies there after 4 decades.
