Every summer I take my two English Springer Spaniels (Zooey and Captain) on a mini vacation and this year we decided to drive down to San Diego from Los Angeles. I had a few free nights with my Marriott Bonvoy points and booked a stay at The Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa.

Coronado Island is super pet-friendly and offers a variety of activities that you can enjoy with your fur babies. Here is a list of five pet-friendly things to do on Coronado Island:

1. Coronado Ferry Landing Park

Coronado Ferry Landing is a great place to explore shops, cafes, and restaurants. Many of the outdoor patios of the restaurants are pet-friendly, so you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy the amazing views of the coast.

We really enjoyed our breakfast sandwiches and desserts at Parfait Paris. They were super pet-friendly and even offered a bowl of water for Zooey and Captain. Their Breakfast Croissant and Nutella Cruffin were buttery flaky and everything I would ask for in a satisfying pastry.

2. Bayshore Bikeway (Silver Strand Bikeway)

Our hotel was conveniently located steps from Bayshore Bikeway where I walked the pups every morning and evening. The pathway has incredible views of the bay and San Diego’s skyline. I was confused by the two names and learned that Silver Strand Bikeway is a 9-mile bicycle and pedestrian path that is part of the larger Bayshore Bikeway.

We saw a handful of bike rentals, which were also pet-friendly, but we opted to walk instead. Plus, Zooey tried riding a bike once when we were in Oceanside, California and she wasn’t a huge fan. However, her cousin, Kuma the Corgi, really enjoyed it.

There were a couple of mini beaches along the pathway, which Zooey and Captain absolutely loved. Since we had the beach to ourselves, I let them run around for a little bit. They were having a great time chasing each other in the sand and dipping their paws in the water.

3. Food Truck Thursdays

A fun way to soak up the sun on the coastline is by checking out Food Truck Thursdays. We were lucky that it was conveniently located at our hotel’s Skyline Terrace. It’s a great way to mingle with new people and fur friends.

There is a live DJ and an array of local vendors with a variety of cuisines. I ended up ordering pizza, but I was surprised to see that there was a sushi food truck (I’ve never seen one before). Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were available and it was a pleasant family friendly atmosphere.

4. Downtown Coronado

Downtown Coronado welcomes furry friends and it is filled with historical charm. The area has a small-town atmosphere, which I admire, and it’s a great place to walk around with your pups. Fun fact: The author of The Wizard of Oz spent many winters in a tiny home in downtown Coronado that still stands at 1101 Star Park Circle.

I initially wanted to take the pups to Yappy Hour at the historic Hotel del Coronado, which is an iconic landmark in Coronado (celebrities like Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe stayed here). But sadly, after reading Louie Vuitton the Frenchie’s review, I found out that Yappy Hour no longer existed.

After walking around and spotting the various historic homes in the area, we settled on dining outside at Little Frenchie. It may seem like we only dine at French-themed establishments, but I swear it’s all just a coincidence. This French Bistro welcomed my fur babies and although the space was a little tight, we made it work. The food was delicious and I just adored their Little Frenchie logo.

5. Coronado Off-Leash Dog Beach

You can’t miss Coronado’s Off-Leash Dog Beach if your pups love to play in the sand and enjoy splashing in the waves. Access to the dog beach section is a fairly long walk, so be prepared with your walking shoes.

Coronado’s off-leash dog beach is on the smaller side compared to other dog beaches in Southern California and parking can be a little tricky (street parking only). Despite it being a busy beach, it’s clean and very well maintained.

I had such a great time on Coronado Island with Zooey and Captain and would definitely return in a heartbeat. Everywhere we went, it was super dog-friendly and no matter where we went, the views were so relaxing and beautiful.
