We have been hearing so many great things about Nashville that we had to stop by on our cross country road trip this summer. We wanted to book a stay within walking distance from Honky Tonk Central and the best pet-friendly option we found was the Homewood Suites by Hilton Nashville Downtown. This was perfect since Kuma is a huge fan of Homewood Suites properties.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

We were very impressed with the brightly lit and spacious lobby, but even more impressed with the staff member who helped us with our reservation. He was super friendly, inviting, and very attentive.

LOCATION

The location is fantastic as it’s within walking distance to all the main attractions in downtown Nashville. Broadway was only a 10-minute walk from the hotel where all the neon lights, live music, shops and restaurants are located. There were several dining options and cafes steps away from the hotel as well and we enjoyed Puckett’s and E+Rose. If your itinerary consists of activities in Downtown Nashville, this hotel is a perfect. If you’re traveling with your dog, even better because it’s pet-friendly!

THE ROOM

Our room was spacious and opposite from the more traditional open-concept design hotel rooms. The kitchen and living room area was separated from the bathroom and the bathroom was set apart from the bedroom. All the rooms were divided into their own spaces, so it felt like you were in a real home or apartment.

As soon as you walk in, to the left was a spacious kitchen with standard-sized appliances. If you wanted to cook a meal, it was totally doable and we did that on our first night. Crystal pan fried some leftover steak and Candy reheated some food in the microwave. There wasn’t an actual dining room table, but there was a desk and coffee table available as well as a small side table.

Lounge Area

There is a lounging area which was a nice space for Kuma to run around and she really took advantage of it. There was a large flat screen TV, dresser, and desk with an ergonomic working chair. Luckily, we didn’t have to spend hours glued to our laptop for work, but it was nice to have a comfy desk chair should we need it. Those chairs make such a huge difference the older you get.

The bedroom was equipped with a large dresser, TV, two queen-size beds, and a tiny closet. This closet wasn’t very useful as the sliding doors made it quite difficult to store our items. Not a huge deal as there was plenty of room to place our luggage elsewhere. The closet was filled with extra blankets, an iron board, iron, and a suitcase rack. Just like the Homewood Suites we stayed at in Moab, this room also had a ceiling fan. Ceiling fans are great because they effectively circulate the air in a room to create a draft throughout the space.

Spacious Bedroom

Spacious Bedroom

There was plenty of space between the beds and multiple outlets for both of us to charge our phones and other electronic devices. We really appreciated that a door separated the bedroom from the bathroom. This was a nice feature since one of us typically wakes up earlier. Our bedroom windows did not have a view of the actual outdoors, but of the atrium lobby. The large skylight covered space provided quite a bit of natural light into our room during the day. We can’t remember the last time we stayed in a hotel that did not have an outside view.

The bathroom was separated from the sink area, which is a feature we like in hotel rooms. Having the vanity area independent from the bathroom helps us get ready faster in the mornings. The shower and bathroom area was very well lit and everything worked well except for the outlets and towel bars. They definitely needed to be replaced. The nail that held the towel bar was broken, so every time we pulled a towel off the rack, the bar would fall down. The outlet that is meant to be used for a blow dryer or electric razor was so loose that we had to use one of the outlets in the kitchen instead.

AMENITIES

24-hour Fitness Center, 24-hour Business Center, Wedding Services, Event Facility

We didn’t take advantage of the amenities offered, but it’s nice to know it’s available. Our room was located on the same floor as the Event Facility and the event space was gorgeous. We’ve been to several conferences in the US and wish we would have had one here.

DINING

There is a dining area on the first floor and they served a wonderful complimentary breakfast buffet full of hot and cold foods. We took some muffins, fruits and coffee on our way out.

There is also a restaurant/bar within the hotel, but it was closed due to the pandemic (or they were still in the process of opening the new restaurant).

E+ROSE Wellness Cafe

Being that the hotel was located downtown, there were several dining options available. Some of the places that we researched on YELP sounded amazing, but the wait times were super long. Luckily, there were plenty of other options that worked out just fine. We had a yummy breakfast at Puckett’s Restaurant, healthy lunch at E+ROSE Wellness Cafe, and dinner and cocktails at Makeready Libations & Liberation. The service and food were wonderful at all three locations.

PET FRIENDLINESS

The hotel is pet friendly; however, they do not provide any amenities like bowls or a dog bed. We always bring our pet products so that wasn’t an issue for us. There wasn’t a dedicated area to walk Kuma, but there was plenty of sidewalks to walk around the area.

HOTEL COST

We stayed for two nights during the Labor Day weekend in September 2020 and it was $190 per night plus the $25 pet fee and $28 valet parking cost. Luckily, we still had some Hilton points left, so we used some of that and brought it down to $122 per night.

If you would like to save money on hotel costs with Hilton, I highly suggest getting one of the Hilton credit cards. They provide excellent benefits and will most likely give you bonus points so that you end up with several free hotel stays. We’re not affiliated with Hilton credit cards in any way and we honestly think it’s a great deal.

PARKING

Our parking options were very limited since the hotel is located in central downtown. You had the option of metered street parking or valet parking. Metered street parking was not ideal since it would have been a pain to constantly monitor the parking situation and it was very limited. Valet parking was our next best option, but it wasn’t the best. The valet attendant was great; however, due to lack of staff, it took FOREVER to retrieve our vehicle. On the day of our departure, it took over 45 minutes to get our car which threw off our road trip itinerary.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The hotel’s location is an easy walk to Nashville's live music scene and is the perfect place for a quiet night in. The valet parking situation wasn’t the best, but we understand that it was a holiday weekend as well, so things were busier than usual.
