We love scrolling through Instagram and discovering adorable eateries like Parakeet Cafe. They opened their doors in the summer of 2017 and it's already creating quite the buzz from it's unique interior and yummy organic menu. We wanted to start off our morning with healthy choices and Parakeet Cafe had plenty of that on their menu. They also have a variety of pastries at the register counter if you have a sweet tooth.
We were having a hard time deciding what to order but the cashier was super friendly and gave us plenty of great suggestions. We were also having trouble deciding on a drink and the barista took her time to explain the different options they had. We normally order a simple latte or black coffee but her suggestions convinced us to try something more new and exciting.
When we saw that their menu consisted of matcha dishes we were super excited to try their Gluten Free Matcha Waffle. Growing up in Japan, we both love anything that is matcha flavored. We also ordered the Yogurt Plate which had an interesting choice of either coconut or organic Greek yogurt topped with seasonal fruit and homemade granola.
Their service was fast and we loved their specialty Turmeric Latte and Yogurt Plate. The Matcha Waffles, which were gluten-free, was ok but we were hoping for it to have that distinct matcha flavor. The banana nice cream and fresh fruits were wonderful and we enjoyed eating the toppings more than the waffle itself.
We got to the cafe pretty early so there was plenty of seating but as we began to eat our food, the line quickly grew and we were glad we beat the crowd since the cafe is fairly small.
We also left the cafe with a cute gift. When we were ordering our food, we noticed these cute parakeet pins at the counter and asked how much they were. We were surprised when the cashier told us they were free. These aren't those cheapo pins, so we both replied, "Really!?!?!?" We definitely aren't used to establishments gifting their customers with such well-made souvenirs.
We've been noticing a trend with these new pink colored cafes like Holy Matcha and Alfred's Tea Room, but this one is slightly different as they have a full on menu with breakfast all day and a ton of healthy options.
