The Mission Pacific Hotel - A Vibrant Beachfront Sanctuary in Oceanside

We really enjoy taking weekend trips with our pups and this weekend getaway was one of our best stays in Oceanside at the Mission Pacific Hotel. Oceanside is located 40 miles north of downtown San Diego or 90 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

We drove from Los Angeles on a sunny Friday afternoon with our pups, Zooey and Kuma, and it was about a 2-hour drive. The driving time always depends on the infamous LA traffic, but 2 hours was not bad at all.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Mission Pacific Hotel is a dog-friendly Category 5 Hyatt property and is situated in a prime spot right next to the Oceanside Pier. It is a short distance off the freeway and is situated right in front of the Pacific Ocean.

We drove up to the entrance and were immediately greeted by the valet staff. Everyone was very helpful and we had our room keys and welcome gift (more on this shortly) in hand with very minimal wait time.

THE ROOM

Our room was on the 5th floor, in between the two hotel wings with a direct view of the ocean. When we opened the door to our room, we were very pleased with the natural light that lit up the entire room. The room had a cozy California beach vibe with a mix of bohemian chic.

Double Queen Bed Room

The next thing we were both in awe of was the amazing oceanfront view. We arrived shortly before sunset so everything was starting to have that magical glow.

We had a two queen bedroom with a spectacular oceanfront view. The balcony was spacious and the lounge chairs were super comfy (not those typically uncomfortable metal chairs). We enjoyed sitting outside any chance we got and the pups loved it as well.

Oceanfront Views

The bed was incredibly comfortable, with plenty of pillow options. Between the cushy mattress and the blackout curtains, we slept like babies throughout our stay.

The first thing that we noticed about the room that was a stark contrast from the many hotels we have stayed at was the layout. There was no working desk. Instead, the space was used to accommodate more seating.

We really appreciated the multi-functional seating areas since they gave us more options to place our luggage as well as more seating options for both us and the pups.

Plenty of seating in the room

Complimentary water bottles

Second, the entryway had an area where we could sit down and put on our shoes or place little miscellaneous items like our room keys and dog leashes.

Third, the open concept of the bathroom allowed natural light to enter the space as well as made the room feel more spacious.

Lastly, there were two complimentary reusable water bottles. Each floor had a premium alkaline water fill station with the option of cold or room temperature water. We love this concept and hope more hotels adopt it to reduce plastic waste.

Zooey’s favorite corner of the room

There were plenty of power outlets, USB ports, a refrigerator, an illy capsule coffee machine, a wardrobe closet, a garment steamer, a flatscreen TV, bathrobes, and rubber slippers. Crystal was really happy to see slippers as it’s seldom provided in American hotels.

Bathroom

As mentioned above, the bathroom was an open layout. There were two large sliding doors to allow for privacy and there was a second door for the toilet itself. The large vanity was stocked with plenty of towels and the lighted wall mirror included light controls, which was such a cool feature.

Bathroom

Shower

We absolutely loved the toiletries that they provided. We liked it so much that we wished it was provided in single-use bottles (to enjoy at home), but everything was environmentally-friendly (and we appreciate this) and placed in large bottles.

DOG-FRIENDLY

Remember that welcome gift we mentioned earlier? It was a welcome gift for our fur babies. We’ve been to numerous dog-friendly hotels and this gift bag outshined them all. The gift bag was filled with adorable treats, a mini frisbee, a bandana, and a guide to pet-friendly things to do in Oceanside.

The gift bag included a map of where the pet-relief stations are on the premises. There are two locations and we noticed that there was always security walking around so we didn’t feel uncomfortable walking our pups at night.

CHARLIE’S AT THE TOP GUN HOUSE

The coolest “amenity” at the Mission Pacific Hotel is the historic Victorian-style home. This restored 1887 beach cottage was featured in the iconic Top Gun film as Charlie’s (Tom Cruise’s love interest in the movie) beachfront home.

Soon To Be Charlie’s Dessert Shop

It will soon be a Dessert Shop named Charlie’s, so for now you can enjoy the exterior and take advantage of some cute photo-ops.

ON-SITE AMENITIES

The amenities are vast and with a sister property right next door, the Seabird Resort, you have access to their onsite amenities as well. That means you get access to two gyms, two pools, activities, and more.

Outdoor Lounge

While the Mission Pacific Hotel may not have sprawling grounds, it does have a quaint outdoor lounge area right behind the Top Gun House and just outside of the lobby. There’s plenty of comfy couches and even a huge fireplace.

Pool

Since we visited in December, it wasn’t exactly pool season, but we did see some folks enjoying the pool and jacuzzi at the Seabird Resort. Both rooftop pools have fantastic views and offer lounges and cabanas.

Gym

We didn’t have any plans to workout during our stay, but if you are adamant about getting in your daily workout, their gym room is humongous. We were pretty blown away as to how large and equipped it was for a hotel gym.

Gym

Complimentary Activities

In addition to two gym rooms, the hotel offers free daily fitness classes like Yoga and Sculpt FIT. They also offer some unique activities like a DIY Macramé class and a Paint and Sip class. Make sure to check out the in-room Mission Pacific magazine for their calendar of events to take advantage of these complimentary activities.

ON-SITE RESTAURANTS & CAFES

The Rooftop Bar

The Rooftop bar is a great place to grab some light bites and craft cocktails. This was our favorite place to hang with our pups (especially during sunset) since the staff showered our pups with so much love and attention.

Piper

Located inside the Seabird Resort, Piper’s space has the perfect beach-inspired atmosphere. They serve elevated authentic California cuisine and the presentation of the dishes is exquisite. We highly recommend trying the chef’s favorite, Caramelized French Toast, for breakfast.

LOCATION

The Mission Pacific Hotel is in a prime location with fantastic oceanfront views. There are a ton of restaurants, cafes, and activities located within walking distance.

PARKING

Valet parking is the only option available on the property; however, there is a huge public parking lot directly across the street if you don’t want to valet. We chose to valet since most of our activities were going to be within walking distance from the hotel.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Oceanside isn’t what typically comes to mind when you think of California beach towns. It has a much more laid-back spirit compared to other cities along the coast of Southern California. With modern, comfortable rooms and the addition of the historic “Top Gun” home, the Mission Pacific is a unique beachfront gem.
