My friend, Kathy from Darling Traveler, and I were road-tripping along the coast from Antalya to Pamukkale and we knew we had to stay a couple of nights in Kas to enjoy the charming beach town. There are many adorable boutique hotels, but Hotel Luna Kas caught our eye for its amazing views, central location, and affordable prices.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Driving into Kas was like a dream. We were blown away by the views overlooking the bright blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea and couldn’t wait to see what our hotel would be like. The hotel was very easy to find and once we entered the town of Kas, we turned into a private dirt road that led to Hotel Luna Kas.

There was a reception desk outdoors which reminded me of a little island resort. The woman checking us in was very friendly and told us that she moved to Kas not too long ago from Istanbul and absolutely loves the town.

She wrote down our passport information and one of the staff members took our luggage to the room for us.

THE ROOM

Each room at Luna Kas is unique and I originally booked a triple room with a double bed and single bed, but the hotel upgraded us to a room with a larger balcony. Although the upgraded room had only one large double bed (more like a queen size bed), there was more room and definitely a larger balcony with a better view.

Our room was very modern and I loved the simplistic design. I especially liked the light fixtures that looked custom-made. I also loved that there was a lot of natural light coming in, making the room super bright.

Right next to the door was a space to put your luggage and belongings along with some hangers for clothes. I used this space to prop my Away Carry-On Expandable Suitcase and it fit perfectly.

In front of the bed were a desk with a refrigerator, electric kettle, coffee, and tea. The refrigerator also had a little freezer.

Surprisingly, there was no TV in the room. I don’t normally watch TV when I’m traveling, but we do like to have it on in the background or listen to the news. It wasn’t a big deal not to have a TV, but just something to note.

Another surprising thing in the room was a full-length mirror. We did not have a full-length mirror at any of the other hotels we stayed at in Turkey. I came to that realization when I saw the mirror in the room.

The bed was big enough for the two of us but very firm. I felt like there was no cushioning on the mattress at all. Luckily, I was always tired, so I slept pretty well. Kathy, on the other hand, did not sleep very well because the walls were very thin and apparently our neighbors were very loud at night. I did not hear the loud neighbors at night, but I did hear the door slamming constantly during the day.

The bathroom was fairly small but enough room to get around. The tiles on the floor reminded me of Lisbon’s architecture and style. The shower stall was wonderful with excellent pressure and hot water. I also liked that there was a little window looking out to the beautiful view.

My only gripe about the shower was that the floor in the bathroom would get wet by the time I was done. I’m just not used to shower stalls that are half open.

The sink area was very modern and nice but I wish there was a little more room to place items. There was a magnifying mirror and hair dryer next to it.

The best part about the room of course was the balcony. I’m so happy they were thoughtful enough to upgrade us to this room because we absolutely loved the amazing views. We would have spent more time out here if we had WiFi.

AMENITIES

The pool and lounge deck was my favorite area of this hotel. We had our breakfast and dinner here everyday and always enjoyed our lovely views. It was very relaxing and sometimes we would talk to the staff members who were all very sweet.

The breakfast is complimentary everyday from 8AM - 11AM and they serve an excellent array of dishes where everything looked fresh. You can choose from vegetables, cheeses, breads, meats, eggs, and more.

They serve the breakfast buffet style and usually the guests serve themselves, but due to the pandemic, the staff served the food for us and limited the amount of people entering the buffet area.

The WiFi is complimentary as well and worked great when we were in the lobby or lounge area for our meals, but did not work at all in our room which was very frustrating. We were in Room #502 below the lobby and the WiFi signal did not seem to reach that area. I’m guessing the rooms on the upper level would have better WiFi signals.

Kas in general has terrible cell phone reception. I use Verizon and I did not get any service at all the entire time I was there. Verizon overall did not work so well in the entire country of Turkey, so be aware if you plan on using your cell phone with their service.

They offer yoga on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays but we were not there on those days, so we didn’t get to enjoy this amenity but I bet it would have been a wonderful session overlooking the gorgeous views in the morning.

Parking is free and there seemed to be enough parking spaces for all the guests. It was easy getting in and out of the hotel.

The hotel can book tours for you and Kas is popular for boat tours and scuba diving. We weren’t interested in doing any tours since we planned on relaxing at the nearby beaches.

LOCATION

Hotel Luna Kas is located right above the center town of Kas and only a 2-minute walk down the back stairs. The town has many boutique shops and restaurants and we browsed around some stores, but unfortunately, most of the restaurants were closed. At the time of our visit, Turkey was still on a semi-lockdown from the pandemic, so many restaurants were closed or only offered take-out.

Kas is also close to many beaches including Small Pebble Beach and Big Pebble Beach. Our favorite beach was by far Kaputas Beach. It’s a short 20-minute drive along the coast and it’s one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The waters are brilliant blue and the views are just stunning.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, we loved the staff, food, and views but I’m not sure if I’d stay here again because of the uncomfortable beds, thin walls, and weak WiFi. For me, it was mostly the bed because it was just way too firm. If they’re able to add more cushioning to it, I would probably stay here again because I loved everything else about Luna Kas.
