I was going on another solo cross-country with my dog and needed to find nice dog-friendly hotels along Interstate 10. This was my first time hearing about Drury Inn & Suites and they seemed to have some good reviews at this location in Baton Rouge, so I went ahead and booked it.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Once I exited off I-10, I had to make an immediate left turn into the hotel, but it was basically impossible because there was tons of traffic coming both ways. I had no choice but to keep on driving and make a U-turn at the first traffic light. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out well either because as I was making a U-turn, a truck pulled in front of me, so I was stuck and blocking traffic - my ultimate nightmare. Eventually, I got through the traffic and made it to the hotel but I was a little frazzled after all that.

Luckily, there was plenty of parking and I was able to park close to the lobby entrance. The lobby looked decent and check-in was very smooth. The receptionist was very friendly and explained all the amenities of the hotel in detail.

LOCATION

I chose this location because it was right off the interstate, but as I mentioned earlier, it was a little difficult to make that left turn into the hotel right after you exit. Regardless, it’s still close to the interstate and it was easy getting back onto I-10 when I left the hotel.

There is a gas station and Jimmy John’s right next door and a hospital is on the other side of the hotel. There’s also a lot of stores and eateries nearby including Walgreens, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Piccadilly, Taco Bell and more.

ROOM

The room was a pretty spacious with two queen beds, dresser, TV, working desk, accent chair, large mirror, closet, iron, and ironing board. There was also a microwave and mini refrigerator below the TV. Having a refrigerator on road trips is essential to me because I carry a cooler with snacks and drinks and some of the items need to stay in the fridge.

The design of the room is pretty boring and basic. Everything is in brown and beige tones. With that being said, everything felt pretty clean and tidy. They even wrap the TV remote in plastic to let you know that it has been cleaned. The TV remote is usually the dirtiest thing in hotel rooms, so I like that hotels started doing this.

The bathroom was pretty basic as well with no travel-size toiletries. The shampoo, conditioner and body soap were all in dispensers in the shower. I actually don’t mind that because I it saves on waste. They also provided a couple bars of soap, a hair dryer and lots of towels.

AMENITIES

Out of all the hotels I’ve stayed at this, Drury Inn is the most generous when it comes to complimentary food and drinks. They provide free breakfast, dinner and THREE drinks (that includes alcohol). Nearly all the Drury Inn Hotels come with their FREE 5:30 Kickback which includes a rotating menu of dinnertime snacks, cold beverages, beer, wine, mixed drinks and more, every single night.

I did have some of their pasta and salad for dinner, but unfortunately, it was not to my liking. The white wine I had was great.

This hotel also had a large terrace, guest laundry, 24-hour business center, indoor/outdoor pool & whirlpool, 24-hour fitness center and free Wi-Fi. I didn’t use any of their amenities except for the Wi-Fi and that worked exceptionally well.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

Drury Inn’s pet fee is at a fair price of $35 per night with a limit of two pets per room. This includes dogs and cats. I didn’t see a dedicated pet relief area, but there was grass right in front of the hotel, so that was convenient. They don’t provide any extras for the pets, so make sure to bring your own dog bowls, dog bed, dog crate, etc.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I was pleasantly surprised with all the amenities Drury Inn included. Every single staff member was very friendly and inviting and I even saw some of the guests interacting with the staff as if they were friends. Drury Inn prides itself on treating their guests like family and I saw that first hand.
