The Friendliest Wine and Cheese Bar in Tampa: Cheese Please

We were searching for a place to have a nice and chill Wednesday night when we came across Cheese Please. Cheese Please is a nice little wine bar that offers wine and cheese tastings and their online reviews were outstanding. We couldn't believe that we didn't stumble upon this place sooner with all the rave reviews

Cheese Please opened its doors six years ago and is owned by the delightful Michael and Carlos. They met years ago at a local running club and immediately hit it off. Carlos' job at the time, had him transferred to Amsterdam for a couple of years and in between that time, Michael would visit often. Each time, they would meet up in a different European country and would visit several cheese farms. One day, Michael proposed the idea of opening a cheese bar together in Florida and to his surprise, Carlos agreed. Since then, their wine and cheese bar has been very successful. Their passion for cheese and wine gave them the coveted title of Best Wine Bar in Florida.

So what makes Cheese Please so amazing besides the fabulous owners? Everything! As soon as we walked into the cute bar, we were welcomed with such joy. There is a cute shop with wines, jams and trinkets in the front. As we made our way towards the back, there is a little bar that serves wine and charcuterie. At the very back of the restaurant is where the wine tastings are held. It was packed with excited customers ready to taste some delicious wine. As we were waiting for the tastings to begin, we noticed a bunch of photos of George Clooney. I think it's safe to say someone is a huge fan of Clooney here!

Michael was the host of the cheese and wine tasting and had two helpers that night. He kept referring to them as "girls", which was hilarious because they were full grown men. Michael would give a little explanation of the cheese that was being served and the "girls" followed with an explanation of the wine that was paired with it.

One thing we really enjoyed was that the wine and cheese explanations were sweet and to the point. Wine tastings can be somewhat straightforward and boring, but this tasting is on a whole other level! Michael is a superb host and his wonderful personality really lights up the entire room. Although Michael is not a professional comedian, he was making everyone laugh with his comedy shticks.

As an added bonus, after each explanation, Micheal would project a lovely image of a handsome man on the TV for our viewing. Each picture got more sexy and made the wine tasting experience even better.

We had a total of four cheese samplings and a combination of red wines from Spain and California:

#1 Cana de Cabra & Honey Comb paired with Penta, Blend of Five (Spain, 2013)
#2 Tickler with Red Onions & Sweet Onion Pepper Jelly paired with Freakshow Shyrah & Petite Shirah (Lodi, 2014)
#3 12 Month Manchego PDO and Quince Paste paired with Pablo Claro (Spain, 2013)
#4 Point Reyes Blue & Whiskey Caramel paired with Earthquake Cabernet (Lodi, 2014)

We were having so much fun and couldn't believe how fast the time had passed. The service was awesome and we loved the entire vibe of this place. It's no surprise that Michael and Carlos keep the customers coming. They don't do any advertising and everyone that walks through their doors is through word of mouth.

Keep doing what you're doing Cheese Please!
