I’m always on a hunt for dog-friendly hotels along Interstate 10 since my dog, Kuma, travels with me on all of my cross-country road trips.

Fort Stockton is a good pit stop in Texas and although my stay at Best Western was great last time, I wanted to try out a different hotel and it just so happened that La Quinta Inn opened a new hotel in October 2020.

FIRST IMPRESSION

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Fort Stockton Northeast (yes, that’s a mouthful) is a very nice hotel with a clean and spacious lounge and dining area when you first walk in. The receptionist that helped me, Luis, was very professional and made sure that I got the room I requested.

When I book hotels online, I always make a note to request a room on the highest floor away from the elevators. I feel like most of the time, this request is ignored or simply overlooked, but Luis carefully looked at all the details and put me up on the highest floor he could find away from the elevators.

Since I was a Wyndham Rewards member, I also received a gift bag full of goodies including a bottle of water, fruit gummies, Belvita snack, and a plastic cup. It was one of the nicest gift bags I’ve received from a hotel just for being a rewards member.

LOCATION

I did not notice anything right by the hotel or within walking distance, but the hotel is located right off of I-10 and about a 5-minute drive from Fort Stockton’s historic downtown.

If you have some time, I would visit downtown to see Fort Stockton’s iconic roadrunner statue, Paisano Pete, and stop by many of their historic sites like the forts at Historic Fort Stockton.

For dinner, I ordered take-out from B’s Family Dining and had an excellent cheeseburger. They serve traditional American dishes and one of their popular items is the BBQ Brisket Sandwich. The restaurant is located in downtown, close to The Old Jail.

ROOM

My room was located on the 4th floor in Room 405. Just like the lobby, it was very clean and spacious. I didn’t really like the concrete floors; I generally prefer wooden floors or carpet. Other than that, everything else about the room was great.

Room 405 with two queen beds

I booked a room with two queen size beds and I had a great night’s rest. Next to the beds is an orange accent chair, a tall lamp, and a nightstand in the middle with an alarm clock, phone, and many outlets and USB ports.

Across from the beds are a long console that can be used as a working desk, dining area, and luggage rack. I’ve seen this console style at a couple of other hotels and I really like the functionality of it.

There’s plenty of room to place my things, eat my meal and work on my laptop if I need to. There is also a large TV located above it and extra outlets and USB ports here as well.

Microwave, coffee machine, and refrigerator in the room

In the hallway is a full-length mirror and a closet with an extra blanket (which I used), iron, ironing board, and six hangers. Next to that, is the microwave, refrigerator and coffee machine. I loved that the fridge was a decent size with a separate freezer.

The bathroom was great with a large mirror and sink. They provided plenty of towels, which I always appreciate. There was also a hair dryer and travel-size toiletries including Pantene shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

They also provided a bar of soap and a makeup remover wipe, another item I always appreciate at hotels. The shower was really nice and shiny with modern tiles and shower pressure and temperature control was excellent.

AMENITIES

This La Quinta Inn provides many amenities including a 24-hour reception desk, BBQ grills, business center, fitness center, free breakfast, free parking, free WiFi, laundry facilities, laundry services, meeting room, outdoor pool, RV parking and more.

Outdoor pool

Their complimentary breakfast starts at 6am and although I did not get to try any of their breakfast items, I saw that they had various pastries, muffins, fruits, cereals, and more.

There is also a coffee and water station that is available for 24 hours, but the last pot of fresh coffee is brewed at 7pm.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

Usually, La Quinta Inns do not charge a pet fee, but this particular location charges a $20 pet fee. As a bonus, they have a fenced-in dog relief area and dog waste station in front of the hotel. It’s nice that they created the fenced-in area, but I wish they would have made it a little bigger for the dogs.

With that being said, I do appreciate that they placed fake grass in there for the dogs that do not like to relieve themselves on dirt or rocks.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Kuma and I had an excellent stay here and if I’m in the area again, I would definitely stay here. The service was excellent, the rooms were clean, the fridge with a separate freezer was useful, and I had a great shower and a great night’s rest. All the things I look for in a hotel.
