I wish all hotels were like Hotel McCoy in Tucson, Arizona. They are affordable, dog friendly, have friendly service, cute rooms and an all around great vibe.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Tucson, this hotel is it! Hotel McCoy is Tucson’s first art hotel and emphasizes function and affordability – offering fellow wanderers local style and high-end amenities at low rates. This is what they call Travel For All.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Hotel McCoy was very easy to find with it’s adorable entryway that welcomes you with a sign that says “Tucson is Magic”. They have a convenient drive-through check-in process where you pull up into the archway and a staff member comes up to your car to start the check-in process.

I gave them my ID and credit card and within minutes, they were back with my hotel card key, a free drink token, and some extra information including a menu. They also noticed Kuma in the back seat and gave her a treat, which she loved!

LOCATION

Hotel McCoy is located right off of Interstate 10, which is convenient for travelers like me that are just staying for one night and need to hop right back on the interstate to continue the journey.

I did not notice any restaurants nearby within walking distance. There’s not much around except for additional hotels and a huge Amazon distribution center.

I did find an awesome Japanese restaurant that’s a 5-minute drive from the hotel called Kukai. Their food was fantastic and I enjoyed my meal in the room.

They have outdoor seating there as well if you’d prefer to eat outdoors. I would call ahead to place your order because they are very popular.

ROOM

I stayed in room 128 and each room has its own unique design. I chose to stay in the Sentinel Peak room which had a kitchenette, full bathroom, King Cloud-Zero bed, fun fixtures, and a 55-inch Smart Roku HDTV.

The kitchenette featured a retro microwave, fridge/freezer, hot plate, prep space, and a sink. They usually have utensils and dishes in the kitchenette as well, but due to the pandemic, they are now asking that you request the kitchen utensils from the lobby if you need them.

There are also two stools underneath the kitchen countertop so you can enjoy your meals there like I did.

The room had a lot of fun and useful items like the creative chalkboard and chalk so you can write or draw anything that inspires you. They also had a retro yellow desk with a couple of books and extra information about the hotel.

If I needed anything, including drinks and breakfast, all I had to do was call or email the lobby and they would deliver it to my door.

The bathroom was great with a large, modern sink and some basic toiletries including a hairdryer, lotion, soap, Q-tips, nail filer, and hand sanitizer wipes. There were also plenty of towels available and shampoo, conditioner, and body soap dispensers in the shower. Bonus that there was a magnifying mirror next to the sink as well. These mirrors always come in handy when doing makeup or plucking eyebrows.

AMENITIES

Hotel McCoy has a lot of fun amenities including a salt water pool, bar and games like ping pong and foosball. There is also a laundry room, fitness center and a cute book store on-site. The best part is all the fun wall murals done by local artists.

There is also free property-wide WiFi and complimentary breakfast with the “world’s longest oatmeal bar”, Poptarts, fruits, local coffee, and tea. You also get a complimentary beer or wine that you can get yourself at the bar or have it delivered to your room.

The lobby is staffed 24 hours a day and although breakfast doesn’t start until 6am, the kind staff gave me a cup of coffee at 5:30am when I had to hit the road early. I really appreciated that.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

Pets stay for free here with a $50 refundable deposit. There is a nice pet walk area with a dog waste station at the front of the hotel. It’s mostly rocks, but there is also a small section with fake grass in the back if your dog prefers to relieve themselves on grass. There are no extra amenities provided for dogs, but the staff gave Kuma a dog biscuit at check-in.

I really loved my stay here and highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in the Tucson area. I was very impressed with their modern, vintage decor and they did a superb job remodeling this place.
