What is a Japanese family restaurant? In Japan, we call it famiresu (ファミレス), which is short for family restaurant and it’s somewhat similar to chain restaurants in the U.S. Here is our list of seven things we love about Japanese family restaurants.

The executive chef, Matt Cooper, is actually a preacher's son and modified the oldest church in Bentonville (built in 1904) into a gorgeous bright establishment. Actually, Japanese Kitchen Dosunco is probably my favorite ramen shop ever; even compared to some ramen restaurants in Japan. While we were visiting Bentonville, Arkansas, we had to go see what the rage was all about for ourselves. We have only had store-bought bagels, so we were pretty excited to try handcrafted and freshly made water boiled bagels from Ozark Mountain Bagel.
Read MoreSteak Katsu (or gyukatsu) is relatively new in Japan. It’s so new that not even my Japanese relatives knew about it when I went to go visit them in November 2016. Katsu, meaning (fried) cutlet, is very common in Japan, but most of the time, it’s made with pork or chicken. There’s a few places that I know of that currently serves steak katsu and Shibuya is one of them.
