I was going on a solo road trip with my dog across the country and needed to find some good pet-friendly hotels along the way. Home2 Suites Energy Corridor in Houston, Texas, definitely fit the bill and it was my favorite hotel stay among all the hotels I stayed at on this trip.

FIRST IMPRESSION

This was my first time staying at a Home2 Suites by Hilton and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was; especially for a pet-friendly hotel. Everything was very clean, bright, and modern.

The check-in process went smoothly and I was given a bag of goodies for being a Hilton Gold Member. The goodies consisted of two water bottles, Twix, and trail mix. It was definitely one of the best bags of goodies I received being a Hilton member.

THE ROOM

I stayed on the 4th floor in Room #431 and my room was very spacious. Kuma loved all the space as well. She especially loved the carpet and the views. The views weren’t that great, but she enjoyed looking out the window from the bed.

Kitchenette

There was a kitchenette up front with a large refrigerator, a microwave, sink, and even a dishwasher. They also provided plates, bowls, cups, and silverware on the shelves and inside the drawers. Coffee, tea, and some condiments like salt and pepper were placed on the counter as well.

Right across from the kitchenette was the bathroom. I loved the lighting on the mirror with the large counter space and sink. They provide you with 2 large towels, 2 medium towels, and 2 small towels along with a towel for the floor.

Stand-up shower with great shower pressure

The toiletries are provided by Neutrogena and came with travel-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. They also provide a bar of soap and a shampoo and conditioner dispenser in the shower.

There was no bathtub and a stand-up shower only, but it felt really good taking that shower. The water pressure was just right and the temperature was nice and hot. The plush towels felt good on my skin as I dried off too.

Neutrogena toiletries

As you move past the kitchenette, there is a modest living room area with a pull-out sofa bed and a large, square ottoman. I actually used this ottoman as a step for Kuma to climb up and down the bed. Her short legs have difficulty reaching most hotel beds, so I always try to find something for her to help get up the bed.

Across the couch is a working desk with an ergonomic chair. You can also pull out the desk and use it as a dining table. Next to the sofa is a king size bed and dividing curtain just in case you have someone staying with you and want a little privacy.

Working desk area and large TV

The bed was very comfortable and as I mentioned earlier, Kuma loved it as well because right next to the bed was the window where she could look out at the views (mainly the cars driving by in the distance on Interstate 10).

In front of the bed is a large TV and a dresser. Next to each side of the bed is a nightstand with lamps, an alarm clock, and outlets including USB plugs. In the corner was a little closet with hangers, an ironing board, and iron.

THE AMENITIES

The Home2 Suites Houston Energy Corridor location provides a lounge area, business center, 24-hour fitness center, and an outdoor heated pool.

They also provide a free shuttle service from 6 am - 10 pm within a few mile radii of the hotel. You can visit the Memorial city mall and enjoy fine/casual dining that is minutes away.

Business Center

If you are at the hotel from Sunday through Thursday, they also hold an evening reception with beer, wine, and snacks from 5 pm-7 pm. I stayed at the hotel on a Saturday, so I was not able to take advantage of this.

Their full American breakfast buffet is served every day from 6 am - 9 am (until 10 am on Saturdays and Sundays), but at the moment, during the pandemic, they are handing guests to-go bags.

I went up to the service desk in the morning and they gave me a breakfast to-go bag including a breakfast sandwich, apple, granola bar, and yogurt. They also handed me a to-go cup of coffee and orange juice. The coffee they gave me was actually really good.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

Whenever the staff encountered Kuma, they were all very friendly with her. It was a great pet-friendly environment and everyone seemed welcoming.

There was plenty of grass for Kuma to walk around in front of the hotel and it appeared to be in a great neighborhood by luxury condos.

The pet fee was on the expensive side at $75 per night. At that price, you’d expect a little gift of some kind, but there was nothing. A lot of hotels with pet fees give little dog goodies like snacks and/or provide dog bowls in the room. I’m always prepared with dog snacks and bowls, so it wasn’t a problem, but it would have been nice to have or offered.

Other than the expensive pet fee, this is an excellent hotel to stay at with your pet.

HOTEL COST

I stayed at Home2 Suites Houston Energy Corridor in early June while the pandemic was going on and things were slowly starting to open. I paid for the room with my Hilton points which was 22,000 points (it would have been $98 if I paid for it). Even though the room was paid for with points, I still had to pay for the pet fee and additional taxes. With the pet fee being $75 and the taxes $12.75, the total cost was $87.75. If I didn’t use points, it would have cost $185.75.

FINAL IMPRESSION

Overall, I loved my stay here at Home2 Suites Houston Energy Corridor and so did Kuma. Even though the fees were a little high, I didn’t mind it since I loved my large room and had a good night’s rest on the super comfortable bed. I had complete darkness and silence. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to continue my road trip!
