We're always on the hunt for pet-friendly places in Tampa, Florida and recently stopped by c.1949 Florida Beer Garden. We always feel bad leaving Kuma at home when we are out having fun on the weekends, so when we heard about c.1949 being a pet-friendly establishment, we were excited to take Kuma with us.

c.1949 is a fairly small indoor and outdoor bar, located in Lowry Park, close to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. The building used to be a grocery store in 1943 and then became a bar in 1949, hence the name c.1949. Inside, there's a bar, several tables, communal tables and a game area with a pool table, darts and board games. There's also a large courtyard outside for those that want to enjoy their beer in the Florida sun as well.

They have an extensive craft beer menu with 40 taps and 100 bottles and cans consisting of local favorites as well as newly released beer. They also offer hand selected wines and house-made sangria. Since there was so much to choose from, we decided to order a flight.

With the flight option, you get a choice of any three beers or ciders on tap. Since there were so many options, it actually took us quite a while to pick our three beverages. If you aren't a beer fan, they do have a wine list but they don't carry any liquor.

Crystal ordered:

  • Ace Pineapple Cider

  • HRDWTR with Seasonal Fruits

  • Lavender Ale (Crystal's favorite)

Candy ordered:

  • Ace Space Bloody Orange (Candy's favorite)

  • CBGB with Seasonal Fruits

  • Lavender Ale

we like the idea of writing down our choices so we don't forget what we ordered when we begin our tasting

c.1949 does not have a food menu but they offer some snacks like the famous BBPCo gourmet popcorn, gourmet chips, peanuts and all natural beef jerky. We ordered a bag of their peppered beef jerky and it was quite tasty. They also have a variety of food trucks that rotate throughout the week with a monthly schedule on their website.

The atmosphere is super laid back which makes for a great place to hang out with friends for a few drinks and play some bar games. If you want to just relax and enjoy a beer while watching a baseball or hockey game, there's plenty of TVs along the walls as well. In the evenings, c.1949 usually has some sort of fun event going on like movie night or trivia night too. The bartenders were very friendly and even gave Kuma some treats after she showed off some of her tricks.

Overall, we had a lovely afternoon hanging out indoors with Kuma. Florida summers are really hot and humid, so being outdoors with Kuma isn't an option. Finding pet-friendly establishments in Florida is becoming more common nowadays and we love that we can spend some time with our favorite corgi indoors.
