Not in the mood to check out amusement parks? Want a more laid back day or just something different? Here are some day trips you can take that are not too far away from Orlando and definitely worth checking out.
If you live in the Orlando and Tampa area, chances are you have driven past Dinosaur World numerous times on Interstate 4 but have you actually stopped by? Many people have not although I hear from everyone that they do want to stop by one day because the idea of dinosaur structures in a park is intriguing.
The much anticipated Ichicoro Ane is now open in St. Petersburg, Florida! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the newest Japanese restaurant and am very excited about this new addition to the Tampa Bay area as it is like none other.
My friend, Mariko, was coming to visit me from Canada and since she's a huge Harry Potter fan, I thought it was the perfect time to visit Universal Orlando Resort. I've been wanting to ride the Hogwarts Express ever since it opened a few years ago and I'm not even a Harry Potter fanatic. I've been on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride before and was super impressed with how innovative it was, so I was excited to see what they created with the newest Harry Potter additions.
Fort De Soto Park is one of my favorite places in the Tampa Bay area because it is super pet friendly and the dog beach is absolutely beautiful. Fort De Soto is located in St. Petersburg, Florida and has three miles of gorgeous white sand beaches that are ranked among the best of Florida’s beaches.
We had tickets to visit the Dali Museum and finally got a chance to explore the exhibits together. We both knew of Dali's famous painting "The Persistence of Memory" so we were curious to see more of his art. This museum carries the largest collection of Dali's work outside of Europe and is rated the #1 place to visit on Trip Advisor in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Have you heard of Spook Hill in Florida? If you’re looking for weird things to do in Florida, you definitely need to stop by here. Spook Hill is located in Lake Wales, Florida, which is 60 miles east of Tampa or 55 miles southeast of Orlando.
I have been wanting to write this post for awhile because it’s my favorite ramen shop in the Tampa Bay area. Actually, Japanese Kitchen Dosunco is probably my favorite ramen shop ever; even compared to some ramen restaurants in Japan. It took me awhile to write about it because every time I go, I eat the ramen right away and I don’t have anything to take pictures of. Finally, after numerous trips, I have calmed myself down and took the time to really take in the food, restaurant and the ambience.
We were really looking forward to this unique dining experience at Animal Kingdom's Sanaa Restaurant, so much so, that we made sure to get there as soon as they opened to get the best seat in the house. Being able to dine with the view of the safari animals was one thing we really wanted to experience while staying at Disney World's Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Egmont Key is located at the mouth of Tampa Bay and we wanted to visit this little island for the private beaches, wildlife and history of Fort Dade. The entire island is only 328 acres and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
I feel so lucky to be living in Tampa, Florida with all the pet-friendly locations in this city. Kuma, my sassy corgi, is my best friend and I like to take her everywhere with me if I can. Thankfully, Tampa has numerous pet-friendly spots and these are my favorite places I like to take her with me.
I have been waiting months to dine at one of the newest restaurants in Disney World at Be Our Guest Restaurant. It's a Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant located within the Magic Kingdom amusement park and you get to meet the Beast himself!
We were searching for a place to have a nice and chill Wednesday night when we came across Cheese Please. Cheese Please is a nice little wine bar that offers wine and cheese tastings and their online reviews were outstanding. We couldn't believe that we didn't stumble upon this place sooner with all the rave reviews.
Every summer in Florida, I always think to myself: Can it get any hotter? And every year, yes, it gets hotter. That's why us Floridians need help cooling down. Thankfully, Tampa has a great variety of icy cold treats for us!
I've always wanted to stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge for as long as I can remember. I've read rave reviews about this Disney World resort and many say that this is one of the best resorts at Disney World. One of the main reasons I wanted to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is because you can get a room overlooking the safari with giraffes, zebras, deer and more.
We were really looking forward to visiting this hidden gem and have been following 801 E. Main's journey from their humble beginnings. Robyn, the owner, has been frying up her famous New Orlean's style beignets from her farmer's market stand, The Poor Porker, for years and has since expanded to an amazing eclectic space at. 801 E. Main St.
I have been to Disney World countless number of times in the last 20 years since I live about an hour away from the magical kingdom. Whenever I have visitors that want to visit Disney World, we usually only have one day, so I figured out a system on how to visit all 4 parks in one day. It's an ambitious schedule, but if you have the will, it can easily be done.
We have been huge fans of Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe for over six years now and began going to this unique and trendy spot shortly after they opened. Every time we have friends in town, this is one of the spots we love taking them to. We've spent so much time here that we decided it was time to share this hidden gem.
We heard there was a fairly new restaurant in town; Haven, that specializes in house-made charcuterie and cultured artisanal cheese so we had to check them out.
We explored Tampa quite a bit more this year and experienced so many fun things to do in the area! If you're visiting Tampa, here are some fun things you can do in this great city:
We had one day to spend in Sarasota and wanted to check out the best spots in the area. Sarasota is known for their beautiful beaches, art and culture. We managed to fit in some relaxation on the beach, shopping, dining and a visit to a museum. Here are the top 3 things we found to do in Sarasota:
We didn’t know much about the Ringling Museum of Art before we visited, but we’re sure glad we stopped by when we were in Sarasota. We were blown away by this museum.
We've been searching for a local coffee shop in Tampa that has it all - good coffee (obviously), friendly service, plenty of seating and free wifi - and we finally found it: Ginger Beard Coffee!
Oxford Exchange has been around in Tampa for awhile, but we only recently visited for brunch. I don't know why it took us so long to visit this place because it is gorgeous!!
I haven’t been to the Tampa Museum of Art in awhile and since I had free admission by staying at the Le Meridien Tampa hotel, I made sure to take advantage of a visit. Tampa Museum of Art is a beautiful museum located in the heart of downtown Tampa. The award-winning building was built in 2010 by architect Stanley Saitowitz and has become an icon at Curtis Hixon Park.
I've been taking notice of Le Meridien and Bizou's beautiful Instagram feed and had to check this place out for myself. The Le Meriden Tampa hotel and it’s restaurant, Bizou, is located in downtown Tampa and the building used to be the city's formal federal courthouse. I passed by this building numerous times before and had no idea it was a hotel until I started researching the place! I was even more intrigued and wanted to stay here for the night to get the full experience of this unique hotel.
